The cast of the Sultan has Salman Khan playing the lead role as Sultan Ali Khan, Anushka Sharma as Aarfa, Suzi Khan as young Aarfa, Randeep Hooda as sultant’s coach, Amit Sadh as sultan’s brother, Trony Woodley as a wrestler and other supporting actors.

The story of the movie is about a small town wrestler from Haryana who is able to make global fame by winning fights at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, 2011 FILA wrestling World Championship in Istanbul and the 2012 London Olympics. It shows how the wrestler overcomes his personal and professional challenges.
The film was declared in June 2015 with Salman Khan in the lead role. For the movie Salman Khan has undergone wrestling training under the guidance of Larnell Stovall. Initially it was rumoured that Hollywood Sylvester Stallone will be playing Salman’s coach, late on the same rumours were spread for Sanjay Dutt but by December 2015 Randeep Hooda’s name was finalised for the role of Salman’s coach.

Sultan’s first schedule was filmed at JW Marriot Mumbai and filming of the first schedule was completed by December 2015. In January 2016 second schedule filming was started and Salman filmed the action sequences. One of the songs choreographed by Farah Khan was filmed in March 2016.
